Solidarity with Immigrants’ Rights Activists

DAWA Stands in Solidarity with Colorado Activists!

Brave local activists have been gathering to answer the urgent call from immigrants detained inside GEO’s Aurora concentration camp to lift up their demands for freedom, humane conditions, and an end to all contracts with the for-profit prison company GEO Group, Inc.

People detained inside GEO have been sharing testimonials describing the inhumane conditions they are subjected to by GEO staff, including inedible food, a lack of medical care, no air conditioning, a recent outbreak of tuberculosis that GEO has been attempting to cover up and hide from the public, and more.

In the past week alone, while simply exercising their first amendment right to free speech by uplifting the voices and demands of these unjustly detained immigrants, one activist was shot by a GEO employee and, during a separate incident, four activists, Yoselin Corrales, Terry Burnsed, Arnie Carter and El were arrested by the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office.

DAWA condemns these violations of our comrades’ First Amendment rights to express dissent and to protest the human rights violations occurring in our communities.

DHS, ICE, and GEO violate people’s human rights on a daily basis and they should be prosecuted for these actions, while those who stand up against human rights violations should be protected.

The violence is not only here in our city, but sweeps the country. DAWA stands in solidarity with the families of Lorenzo Salgado-Araujo and Joan Sebastian Guerrero, who were recently murdered.

They should be alive today.

DAWA also stands with Centro CSO activist Nadia Topete, who is currently facing Grand Jury repression for her work fighting for Legalization for All, and an end to the madness of the Trump administration. The FBI has served Topete two subpoenas to appear before a Grand Jury and testify. She is brave to resist these attempts to shut down the movement for immigrants’ rights.

DAWA stands in solidarity with all the activists recently assaulted, arrested and repressed!

Drop the charges! Free them all!
