DAWA Condemns Israel’s Escalation of Genocide in Gaza

This article was written by DAWA in early June 2025 in response to Israel’s escalatory full-scale invasion of Gaza.

In recent weeks, Israel has escalated the genocide it is committing in Gaza by launching a full-scale ground invasion. Since, Israel has forced hundreds of thousands of Gazans to evacuate to so-called “safe zones.”

We know from prior experience that these safe zones are merely where the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) plan to attack next, and so further displacements are imminent. Often, they are already bombing these areas.

This is already exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, which is part of Israel’s strategy for genocide. There has been a global outcry against this, from the broad masses of the people, from governments, from the UN. Israel’s response should reassure only the most naive: Israel will begin setting up aid distribution centers itself, bypassing the UN and any form of international accountability.

To replace the 400 aid distribution sites the UN once established, Israel has set up 4 “safe” distribution sites – behind IOF lines and under Israeli control.

In a turn of events no less horrific for its predictability, the IOF has repeatedly shot and killed civilians approaching the “safe” distribution sites. The IOF killed 31 Palestinians seeking aid on Monday alone, and there have been at least 3 more “incidents” since then. During one of these, the IOF shot Palestinians approaching the aid site from helicopters, injuring at least 184 and killing an unknown number.

The U.S. government remains complicit in Israel’s genocide, continuing to provide weapons, financial aid, and diplomatic cover for Israel’s actions. Most recently, Dorothy Shea – the acting U.S. ambassador to the UN – vetoed a UN Security Council resolution for a ceasefire in Gaza. The resolution had the support of all other members of the Security Council.

Denver Anti-War Action (DAWA) condemns Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza. We further condemn the U.S.’ continued support for the genocide, which continues under the Trump administration just as it did under the Biden administration.

Israel’s actions are only possible because of U.S. aid, which has kept its economy afloat since October 7th, 2023 and its military supplied for decades. DAWA demands an end to U.S. aid to Israel.

The Palestinian people have shown no sign of flagging. Though Israel subjects them to inhumane conditions in Gaza and the West Bank, their persistence and steadfastness is a guiding light to all struggles against oppression.

We must show the same steadfastness on every front. The U.S. war machine is vast, and its arms are everywhere. We must strike blows against it wherever we are, especially against the military-industrial contractors who profit from this genocide and other conflicts.
