Hands Off Cuba! End the US Oil Blockade! Let Cuba Live!

Denver Anti-War Action stands in solidarity with the people of Cuba and supports their right to self-determination!

The United States government has forced sanctions and embargoes on the Cuban people since 1958. The most recent addition to the restrictions placed on the country came from the Trump administration at the end of January, an executive order threatening any country that would be willing to sell oil to the island. Mexico – a key provider of oil for Cuba – has been forced to cut off their supply as a result.

To make matters worse, the seizure of oil tankers in the Caribbean and the illegal kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro have cut off another major supplier of oil to Cuba. The latest aggressive actions by the United States create an environment of unnecessary suffering for the resilient people of the nation of Cuba. The crippling embargo against Cuba and Donald Trump’s attacks on Venezuela have been widely condemned by countries around the world.

This economic strangling is threatening the lives of ordinary people in Cuba. Schools, hospitals, and homes are facing blackouts as the energy crisis deepens. These outages disrupt access to food, water, and healthcare. A recent hurricane already destroyed 100,000 hectares of crops in the country and nearly 100,000 homes. The United States government’s choice to cut off oil to Cuba only makes it more difficult to recover from this disaster, a disaster already exacerbated by the soil erosion caused by U.S. and Spanish imperialists exploiting the island and its people for centuries.

The people of Cuba stand tall in the face of these hardships. They serve as an inspiration to people everywhere. A reminder that we must stand up and fight back against U.S. aggression and intervention!

We demand an end to U.S. aggression in the Caribbean!

Lift the sanctions! End the Embargo! Hands off Cuba!
